Red Brick Building

Red Brick House is a Grade 1 historic building which is located in No. 344 Shanghai Street. It was formerly the Engineer’s Office of the Water Pumping Station and built in 1895. It is the oldest pumping station in Hong Kong. The architectural style is Colonial Neo-Classical style. Its special features include the red brick façade, cast iron hopper heads, cast iron rainwater pipes, arched verandahs and granite coping stones, skew corbels, knee stones, and pad stones to gable. Red Brick House and Yau Ma Tei Theatre now have been revitalized as a Xiqu Activity Centre.

Yau Ma Tei Theatre

Yau Ma Tei Theatre is located at 6 Waterloo Road. It is a Grade 2 historic building built on 21 June 1930. Its representative features include the Chinese pitched roof, gable walls, the Art Deco façade and Dutch steel trusses and timber purlins for roof support, two pillars at the front entrance, and the original proscenium and interior walls of the stage. It opens from 1 pm to 8 pm daily. There are some guided tours that you can join to know more about the theatre. Each session lasts for around 1 hour and entertains a maximum of 4 people. It is free of charge and first come first served. If you are interested, you can contact them to register. Red Brick House and Yau Ma Tei Theatre now have been revitalized as a Xiqu Activity Centre.

Mido Cafe

Mido Cafe first opened in Temple Street at Yau Ma Tei in the 1950s and is the oldest existing Cha Chaan Teng in Hong Kong. It is iconic because it situated in a corner tenement house with special characteristics. It is also one of the best ‘Cha Chaan Tengs’ in HK and its signature dishes include 'Baked Pork Chop Rice' and 'Red Bean & Lotus Seed Ice'. Mido Cafe was also the shooting scenes of two TV dramas produced by TVB named ‘Revolving Doors of Vengeance’ and ‘Street Fighters’.

Yau Ma Tei Police Station

The old Yau Ma Tei Police Station was established in Public Square Street at Yau Ma Tei in 1871. It is one of the oldest police stations in Kowloon. The police station moved to Yau Cheng Road in 2016 because of the Central Kowloon Route development. Now, the old police station has been used as Reporting Centre, Cyber Security and Technology Crime Investigation Bureau office.It is a Grade 2 historical building, and Edwardian and Victorian style architecture in Hong Kong. It is a V-shaped structure. The main door is set in an indented corner. Many gangster movies were shot there, such as "Infernal Affairs", "The Story of the 500 Million Detective Lei Luo", "Election".The ground floor contains inspector rooms, pantry, kitchen. The first floor consists senior police officers and marine police quarters. The second floor is the superintendent’s quarters.It experienced 3 riots in 1952, 1966, and 1967. On 1 Mar 1952, the protesters threw stones at the police officers and smashed police cars there. In the other two riots, protesters threw bombs and raised fire at the old police station. Therefore, many entrances have large iron gates to prevent protesters' invasion.
