Our tour begins at the north end of town, with two converted four-plexes that are part of larger "scattered site" developments. 32 Seminary St was renovated in 2001 and received a face lift in 2018. As you walk west down Seminary St, you will pass #11 on your right, which was renovated in 1999.

Pete Coe Village Apartments
Longtime residents of Middlebury will recognize this property as the site of the former John Graham Motel, which over the years fell into disrepair. In 2014, ACCT and Evernorth partnered to redevelop the property. The old motel was demolished and on its site were built 10 new townhomes. Additionally, three historic buildings on the property (including 31 & 37 North Pleasant St) were renovated into another 12 apartments for a total of 22 units. The buildings are highly energy-efficient and heated with a combination of wood pellets and natural gas. Homes range from studios to four bedrooms, and on average rent for $892 per month including heat and wifi as of 2020. This is considered affordable for someone making about $35,000 per year--the average wage for a renter in Addison County. Residents also have access to a community room, shared laundry, and community gardens. Budgeting classes are offered several times a year in the common room and are open to the community. There is also an active DREAM program that links kids with mentors from Middlebury College.

Smith Housing
Smith housing includes three historic buildings that were last renovated in 2001: 88 South Pleasant, 76 S Pleasant, and 78 S Pleasant St. Nine of the 17 units have rental subsidies through the Section 8 Project-Based Rental Assistance program, meaning that those residents never have to pay more than 30% of their income toward rent.

15 Court St
This apartment building might look familiar to some longtime Middlebury residents as the former site of the natural food store belonging to Robert Durst, the unsavory subject of the HBO true-crime series The Jinx. Now it is home to 15 apartments from studios to three-bedrooms. It was renovated in 1997.
