Tour Overview
a short walk through the arboretum introducing you to many of the more common ornamental trees
Created for Botany 410 this is a tour of ornamental trees with specific traits used to help identify these trees
Stops

Stop 1: 1. Sugar Maple – Acer sacharum

Stop 2: 2. Gambell Oak – Quercus gambelii (very short trees near waters edge)

Stop 3: 3. Norway Spruce – Picea abies (there is a stand of these just beyond the oaks)

Stop 4: 4. English Oak – Quercus robur (rounded lobes)

Stop 5: 5. Sawtooth Oak – Quercus acutissima (leaf is pointy like an arrowhead with serrated edges)

Stop 6: 6. Chinkapin Oak – Quercus muelenbergii

Stop 7: 7. Northern Pin Oak – Quercus ellipsoidalis (lobes end in fine point)

Stop 8: 8. Red Maple – Acer rubrum (near the bend in the pathway)

Stop 9: 9. Flowering Cherry – Prunus sp. (there is a stand of these just south of the Japanese garden)

Stop 10: 10. Japanese maple – Acer palmatum (this is on the outer edge of the Japanese garden- small size)

Stop 13: 13. White Oak – Quercus alba
