Come explore the breath taking history surrounding Farmville’s High Bridge Railroad
Begining with an overview of Farmville and the warehouses over the last two hundred years and ending with the creation of High Bridge State Park, we will help guide you through Farmville's exciting military, economic, agricultural, and transportation history.
From Farmville and the warehouses, we will take you through the history of the railroad including the construction, the purpose, and the significance during the Civil War. Next, we will go into the Civil War campaign history, slavery in the military, General Smith's death, Camp Paradise, and the retreat and burning of the bridge. Finally, we will move from the dormant period to the rebuild, decommissioning, and creation as a State Park.
