The Green Monster

The Green Monster is the name given to the left field wall of the park. It is about 300 feet from home plate and benefits right handed hitters. The wall was part of the original ballpark construction in 1912 and it was made of wood. In 1934, it was covered in concrete when the score board was added.

The Lone Red Seat

The lone red seat is located in the right field bleachers and signified the longest home run hit ever at Fenway Park prior to 2019. Rowdy Tellez hit a longer home run than Ted Williams within the last year. On June 9th of 1946, Ted Williams hit a homerun 502 feet, landing on a man in a straw hat and hitting him in the head. The seat is located in section 42, the 21st seat in row 37.

Pesky's Pole - The Four Poles

Pesky's Pole is name given to the pole on the right field foul line which stands 302 feet from home plate. It is also contains the shortest outfield distance in Major League Baseball. Aeriel pictures show that the measurement of the left-field line at Fenway Park is noticeably shorter than the actual line in right field.

Duffy's Cliff

Between 1912 ans 1933, there was a 10 foot high incline in front of the 25 foot high left field wall at Fenway Park. It extended from the left-field foul pole to the center field flag pole. Because of this, a left fielder had to partake in the territory running uphill. Duffy Lewis mastered the skill and the area became known as Duffy's Cliff.

Open-Air Boxing

On October 9, 1920, Fenway Park hosted the first open-air boxing show in Boston. The Boston Daily Globe described heavy weights McCreery and Lester as the only exciting boxers of the era. After the fight, Lester punched McCreery and the card drew 5,000 spectators.

Retired Numbers

The eleven retired numbers are located above the right field grandstand. All of the numbers retired by the Red Sox are red on a white circle. Jackie Robinson's 42 was retired by all of Major League Babse is blue on a white circle. Robsinson's number is representative of the numbering found on the Dodgers jerseys. Boston numbers are in the same style as the Red Sox jerseys.

Baseball Ground Rules

1. If a ball is going through the scoreboard, it is a ground rule double whether it is a bounce or a fly2. A fly ball striking left-center field wall to th right or on line behind the flag pole is a home run3. The fly ball striking wall or flag pole and bouncing into bleachers is a home run4.Fly ball striking wall left of line and then bouncing into the bullpen is a home run​5. A thrown or batted ball remaining behind or under canvas is a ground rule double
