St. Mark's United Methodist Church

These are the foundation values upon which we base our ministries and mission. They express the very heart of our congregation.Living for Jesus first - Jesus is our Top Priority. He is the Reason we are here.Love, more than tolerance - The Bible doesn't teach us to "tolerate" one another; it teaches us to "love" one another. Tolerance equips us to co-exist. Love empowers us to engage. We want to engage. The gift of Song in all its diversity as a way to worship God - Music is a universal language. It is the "liturgy" of our day. We value expressing our worship in song.Learning and applying God's Word - It is God's Word that gives us the Truth and equips us to live in that Truth daily. The healing power of prayer - We love communicating intimately with our Heavenly Father. We believe that miracles happen when God's people pray in faith. We have seen some of those miracles here.Unity of purpose and mission - Jesus prayed in John 17 that all of His people would be "one." We may not always agree on the details, but we value and pursue unity of spirit. We believe that the Holy Spirit navigates our course.Always having room around the table for one more - We believe that God multiplies our ability to serve those that God sends our way.The gift and balance of rest and Growing in Christ through subtraction - We are a people who take God's command of Sabbath rest seriously. Sometimes our greatest challenge is reordering our lives, to simplify, so that we may focus on what's really important.Generosity with gratitude - Everything that we have belongs to God. God has asked us to be ready to use it when He calls on us with a need. We believe in the gift of generosity.Building solid relationships within a safe community - Our ministries are about connecting people to God and to one another. We uphold high standards of treating people with love, respecting appropriate and healthy boundaries so that all may grow and thrive on the journey with Jesus. The exciting Journey of trusting God - We don't have all the answers to life's circumstances, but we believe in God's redemptive love of us, His children. Our trust in Him is based on His faithfulness.Inviting and welcoming others into the faith community - Jesus said that He came to "seek and save the lost." We accept that mission - the Great Commission - and go willingly and boldly into our communities as representatives of Jesus. Our goal is to love, forgive and invite.History of St. Mark's Online BookletSt. Mark's United Methodist Church

First Presbyterian Church

The First Presbyterian Church of Mount Joy was organized on December first 1839, but began holding services in the Mount Joy vicinity as early as 1746. This church is a thoroughly evangelical church in the historic sense of that word and our basic purpose are to bring people to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, to build them in the Christian faith and life, and to enlarge missionary participation to the extent that all may come to hear of and believe in Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior.First Presbyterian Church Website

Mount Joy Church of God

The year was 1825. America had seen tremendous religious growth as a result of The Second Great Awakening and John Winebrenner felt called by God to begin holding religious revivals and camp meetings across the young nation. When the Rev. Winebrenner carried his message to the people of Central Pennsylvania, a local movement began. Winebrenner himself recalled, “About this time more extensive and glorious revivals of religion commenced in different towns and neighborhoods,” including our town of Mount Joy. Thus, the Churches of God General Conference had begun, and it was into this setting that the Mount Joy Church of God was born. When the winter of 1830-31 arrived Rev. Winebrenner held a great revival in Mount Joy and many residents were converted under his preaching. Officially formed on the evening of March 15, 1831, John Winebrenner organized the Mount Joy Church of God with 35 members. It was Winebrenner’s belief that, “The name or title, Church of God, is undeniably the true and proper appellation by which the New Testament church ought to be designated. This is her scriptural and appropriate name.” The church originally met in a log schoolhouse along Chiques Creek on the east end of town. In 1873, after many different meeting locations, the members of the church agreed it would be advantageous for ministry if they could secure a location in the center of the town. On January 17, 1875, the doors opened to the Mount Joy Church of God at our current location of 30 East Main Street, where we have been ministering to the Mount Joy Community for the last 140 years. The history of the Mount Joy Church of God is a rich story of a church immersed in its’ community. We echo the sentiments of John Winebrenner who stated that the Bible is, “the only authoritative rule of faith and practice.” It is through our study of God’s Word that we have developed our desire to proclaim the Gospel, seek the lost, and build up the believer in everything that we do for the glory of God, and the advancement of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ.Mount Joy Church of God

Glossbrenner United Methodist

In 1839 a United Brethern class was organized in Springville (now Mount Joy). They met in the home of George Geyer and his wife. In 1842 they built a church, it was the first United Brethren Church in Lancaster county. From this church, classes were developed in Lancaster, Ironville, Manheim, and Elizabethtown. On February 20, 1846, the Pennsylvania Conference met in the small brick church. Bishop J. T. Glossbrenner presided. He was from Virginia, and there is a church in Churchville, Virginia near Staunton also named for him. English was his only language, and he was somewhat embarrassed because most pastors spoke German in this area. He was pleased that they made him welcome. In 1860 the Conference convened at Springville and appointed a committee to establish a school in Pennsylvania. This resulted in 1867 in the chartering of Lebanon Valley College in Annville. The congregation outgrew the brick church and a concrete block church was built in 1907 at a cost of $3,500. It was dedicated on December 8, 1907. It also became to small, and an addition was added in 1937 to increase the Sunday School. This addition cost $10,172. J. F. Musselman from this church served as a missionary in Africa. Rev. H. K. Geyer and Rev. H. C. Kottler entered the ministry from Glossbrenner Church. Gary Epler, who is presently a minister in the United Methodist Church was nurtured by this congregation. Our present church was built in 1960 and dedicated on June 4, 1961, under the leadership of Rev. Charles W. Wolfe.Glossbrenner United Methodist

"Mary, Mather of the Church is the faithful of God formed from diversity into one Christian community who join to worship and serve God and neighbor, through a loving tithing of time, talent, and treasure, shown with heroic courage toward all God's children, for HisGreater Glory in union with the prayers of Mary, the Mother of Jesus our Lord and God"We are the faithful of God. First and foremost we are drawn together because of ourCatholicism. We are diverse- drawn from different nationalities, professions, educations andsocial status. Our mission statement calls us to embrace everyone as part of the greater bodythat is our parish. We are drawn together for the greater purpose of worshipping God and serving both God andneighbor. It is not enough to simply show up for Mass, our mission statement calls you tomake God part of your daily life, serving Him and all of His children by whatever meansavailable. Your time—whether it's volunteering to help with the liturgy or helping with ayouth event. Your talent, whether it's making candy for the bazaar or providing conversationwith a lonely soul. Your treasure—tithing to help meet the needs of the parish, and thediocese, and to help others in need.We are called on to do this with "heroic courage". As Catholic men, women, and children it isnot always easy to do what we are called to do in our mission statement. When faced withdifficulty in fulfilling our mission, we must remember that courage is a gift we received fromthe Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation. Our Patroness, Mary, is also included in our mission statement. As we pray for greater faith, courage, and a clear path to follow, Mary is with us, and joins in our supplication. As members of MMOC you should all be aware of the parish mission statement. It is used byall of the parish organizations as a "roadmap" to finding our way as a Catholic Parish. Wemake our way using this roadmap, ensuring that all paths we take are towards His GreaterGlory.Mary Mother of the Roman Catholic Church

Calvary Bible Church

Calvary Bible Church of Mount Joy, Pennsylvania, began in the home of Mount Joy residents, Ray and Carolyn Luphold, as a Friday evening Bible Class taught by Rev. Roy S. Forney. The class grew and, after much prayer, they decided to form a local congregation. After becoming organized, the newly-formed church purchased the Market House on New Haven Street in Mount Joy and services began in the fall of 1941.In 1960, four acres of land were purchased in the Donegal Heights section of Mount Joy and four years later the original building was dedicated on this site. In 1972, an addition was built providing eleven classrooms, office space and a larger foyer area. Continuing to expand, a sanctuary with a seating capacity of 500 was completed on June 19, 1977. A new organ, new piano, and twelve additional classrooms were also provided for in this building program. In the last few years, the need for more classroom space, children/youth space and general elbow room has given rise to the current building project. In 2016 a much needed sanctuary "refresh" was completed as part of the larger building expansion. The new expansion includes plans to push back the walls to give God more room to work in us and through us.In 2016, CBC entered its 75th anniversary year and celebrated God's faithfulness.Calvary Bible Church

Chiques United Methodist Church

Two churches came together to form Chiques United Methodist Church. On November 7, 1957, the congregations of Mount Joy and Salunga Methodist Church approved a plan of consolidation. The new congregation purchased eight acres of land located north of route 230 at the midpoint of the two old church buildings on March 11, 1958. Chiques United Methodist Church is still located at this site.Mount Joy United Methodist Church was founded as a class meeting in the home of Samuel Meldrum in 1834. In 1836, a building to house the congregation was completed. The red brick building pictured on the left was erected in 1852.The Salunga Methodist Church was founded in the living room of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Peifer on May 9, 1889. Mr. Peifer gave a site for the church to be built upon a stone foundation. The finished church was dedicated on October 27, 1889. In 1892, the Pennsylvania railroad’s new line needed to go through the center of the church. The railroad provided the congregation with a new site and the church moved in 1893.On March 29, 1959, Easter Sunday afternoon, the groundbreaking for Chiques symbolized the first step in uniting the Mount Joy (established 1881) and Salunga (established 1889) Methodist Churches. The name Chiques was selected because the new property was located midway between Big and Little Chiques Creeks. The cornerstone was laid on June 7 and the new building was dedicated November 10, 1959 by Bishop Fred Pierce Corson.Chiques United Methodist Church

Mount Joy Mennonite Church

Jesus is front and center at Mount Joy Mennonite Church. Our joy comes from being loved by Jesus. Our peace comes from Jesus’ promise to never abandon us. As his followers, we want to think and act like Jesus. We read Scripture through “the Jesus lens.”We recommend learning to know Jesus! For starters …Jesus showed up on earth as a baby 2,000+ years ago. As he grew, he loved everyone, including the people that others found inferior or disgusting. When he grew up, he announced that God’s kingdom of love and peace was near. He healed people’s bodies and souls and rescued their spirits from evil.He said he was the son of God and the way to God, and pointed to his miracles as signs that he was who he claimed to be. He often said that he only did what his Father directed him to do through the leading of the Holy Spirit, and called his followers (including us!) to do the same.He promised joy and peace in the midst of the trouble and suffering in our lives for anyone who believed him. He taught that at the end of time those who have put their trust in him will spend eternity with him, free from hunger, pain, and sorrow, and that those who ignore their need of a saving relationship with him will spend eternity grievously separated from God and everything good. When those in political and religious power killed Jesus, God brought him back to life several days after he was buried. He appeared to many people before leaving the earth to return to God in heaven. Before he left, he promised that he’d come back again.. . . And that’s just scratching the surface of the story.Mount Joy Mennonite Church

Hope Community Church

Our logo tells the story of who we are, what we value, and where we’re going. Hope’s logo has been thoughtfully crafted and is loaded with symbolism:The interior circle represents the core of our being as people. It also pictures the interconnected relationships that we share together as a church. The cross (in red) represents the work of Christ, which is central to all we are and do. He and His work are the source of our internal strength. The four white arrows pointing to the center represent the need for each of us to be intentional at becoming Internally Strong. By Internally Strong this is what we mean: Moving closer to Jesus. Moving closer to Jesus happens as we seek to: know Him and His Word, be transformed into His likeness, do what we are made by Him to do and connect with others in meaningful relationships in the way He designed us. Thus, we could say that becoming internally strong is about knowing, being, doing and connecting. Knowing Jesus and His word:We believe God has spoken through both the Bible and by entering the world as the person Jesus. Knowing Jesus, His word and doing what He says will make us internally strong.Being transformed into His likeness:We believe that our lives can and should change to become more and more like Jesus. It all starts with placing our faith in Him as the one to save and change us. Through prayer, bible study, worship, mediation and living by the Spirit we expect to become internally strong.Doing what we are made to do:We believe that each person is unique in their personality, passions, and gifts and ought to freely utilize his or her unique gifts in serving both those who are a part of the body of Hope and those who are not. Serving others by doing what we are made to do helps us to become internally strong.Connecting with others in meaningful relationships:We believe that people are designed for relationship and that it is our responsibility to pursue meaningful relationships with those around us. Living in meaningful relationships helps to produce internal strength because we find places where we can belong, be cared for, be real, find direction, be challenge, and be held accountable to become more like Jesus. The four colored, textured arrows pointing out from the center represent the expectation that each of us be Externally Focused all of the time. By Externally Focused this is what we mean: Engaging others around us, locally, regionally and globally in personal, small group and corporate action to bring the whole gospel to the whole person. Engaging others happens when we join in God’s mission, share the hope of the whole gospel, help those in need, and partner with others. Thus, we could say that becoming externally focused is about joining, sharing, helping and partnering in personal, small group and corporate action.Joining in God’s mission:We believe that God is a missionary God who sent His son Jesus to redeem a broken world and that all who follow Jesus are sent by Him to their unique cultural environment to live out that message in words and actions. God maintains an external focus and so will we.Sharing the hope of the whole Gospel:We believe that our focus must be on communicating the whole Gospel for the whole person. The whole Gospel includes doing good to help meet the physical needs of others and speaking truth that helps to meet their emotional and spiritual needs. Both are essential actions of our external focus.Helping those in need:We believe God commands us to care for the poor, the orphaned, the widow and to seek justice for the oppressed. As we do, we share His love and we grow in knowledge of Him. God cares for those who are in need and so will we.Partnering with others:We are committed to partnership, believing that the regional Church will have a greater impact if the local churches and Christian organizations work together to meet physical and spiritual needs. Our external focus will include partnering with others.Hope Community Church

Faith Bible Church

Faith Bible Church was formed in April, 1987. Our first service was held on Easter Sunday in a local fire hall with approximately one hundred people in attendance. Soon after our first Sunday, the Lord provided another meeting place at a local restaurant in Mount Joy. Our new location allowed for the nursery and children’s Sunday School to meet in separate rooms. After officially organizing and adopting a Constitution and a Standard of Faith, we held a Charter Sunday service on June 28th, 1987.The following year, God called Pastor John Lutz to lead our congregation and we voted to purchase 10 acres of land located approximately three miles east of Elizabethtown. On December 10th, 1989, our new building was complete and we held a dedication service. In 2001, God led Pastor Lutz away to minister in Lancaster City and He called Pastor Danny Linville to our congregation in 2003. October 28th, 2007, marked the dedication of our building expansion, which provided more classrooms and a fellowship hall. For ten years, Pastor Linville faithfully ministered at FBC until he sensed the Lord leading Him on.In September of 2013, Pastor Shawn Madrid answered the call to pastor our church and is currently serving in this capacity.Faith Bible Church

Lives Changed By Christ Church (LCBC)

Who We AreLCBC started with a small group of people who dreamed of creating a church where anyone could feel loved and accepted. Today, we continue to live out that dream by creating environments where people who don’t have it all figured out can explore what it means to have a relationship with Jesus. Whatever your thoughts on God, experiences with church, or questions about faith, you're welcome here. The LCBC StoryLCBC started with a small group of people who gathered in a garage in Marietta, PA to dream about a new kind of church. They asked questions like, "What if there were a church that focused on others? What if there were a place where people far from God felt comfortable coming and asking questions? What if everyone who walked through the doors felt accepted, not judged?""We exist to introduce people to Jesus and together fully follow him."This others-driven mindset shaped who we are and it continues to shape us. As we've launched new locations and had the opportunity to reach more communities across the state of Pennsylvania, our mission has remained the same. We exist to introduce people to Jesus and together fully follow him.Today, LCBC is one church with nine locations throughout Pennsylvania. Each location features the same unified experience of live music and one message from a communicator that is broadcasted to each location. What to ExpectEach weekend we gather together to learn about God, hear his Word, and discover how to apply it to our daily lives. Our services include live music and a message from one communicator broadcasted to each of our campuses. When should I get there? We recommend getting here 15 to 20 minutes early to account for parking and finding a seat. If you have kids, please allow for extra time to get them signed in to their environments. What should I wear? Most people dress casually—jeans are a pretty common clothing choice around LCBC—but you can wear anything you feel comfortable in. Where do I park? Our traffic team will make sure you get to a great spot quickly and safely. Look for them as you’re pulling into our parking lot on the weekend on any of our campuses!KidsOur kid Venture Island environments are uniquely designed for kids ages 6 weeks through grade 4. Kids will experience and learn God's truth on their level through singing, interactive stories, videos, and small group time.StudentsOur Student Ministry is designed for grades 5-12 and allows students to be a part of an engaging environment where they will be challenged to grow closer to Jesus through relevant teaching, connecting with other students, and small groups.Lives Changed By Christ Church (LCBC)
