Tipplers Licensed Cafe

This walking tour starts and finishes from in front of Tipplers licensed cafe. The cafe is located on the water's edge not far from the pontoons, where the boats arrive and depart from.

Surf Beach Walk

The central track or Tipplers road runs from north of the Southport yacht club facility on the island down to Couran Cove. It then connects to Currigee Road and runs down to Currigee at the southern end of the island. It is one of the main tracks used by the rangers and other vehichles on the island.The walking track runs off Tipplers Road and is marked with a Surf Beach sign.

Ocean Beach walking track

A narrow walking track. It winds it's way through the unique island vegetation. It is mostly shady and is a leaf littered sandy track, but fairly flat.

Top of the Dune.

At the top of the dune now with beautiful views of the 22 Klm island beach. Off to the south are the high rise buildings of the Gold Coast. From here we descend down to the beach.

Surf Side Beach

Down from the top of the dune and on to the surf beach. This is an unpatrolled beach.

Duxes track turn off.

Along the beach to the turn off to the track back across the island to Duxes. There is a climb back up to the top of the dunes. The descent down to the track back across the island is marked by the "thong" tree. Usually decorated with an assortment of left over flip flops.

Duxes

Named after the Duxes a family who worked the oyster leases here many years ago. TSS (The Southport School) has a facility here used by their students and the Southport Yacht Club has a facility here used by their members. The two organisations share a pontoon on the calm water side for visiting vessels. There are often lots of wallabies here.

Central Track

The walking track now becomes the main central track again. A beautiful natural shady, sandy track. We catch glimpses of the waters of Tippler's passage as we pass through stands of Banksia and various other examples of island flora. Goannas can often be spotted climbing up the trunks of the trees.

Turn Off back towards the western beach

The turn off back towards the western beach. At the end of the track is the newly formed beach created from recent dredging of the channel.
