Grandfather's Synagogue
On Shabbat, Rezyl and her family go to the synagogue where Grandfather is the Rabbi. All the men, dressed the same in long, black coats, black hats and with side curls framing their faces, rush to greet Grandfather. Rezyl and Mamelach enter through through a side entrance which leads to a separate women's section. The women’s section is cordoned off with an ugly blue velvet curtain hanging from tall poles, to hide the women from the men, so that their presence doesn’t disturb their prayers. Rezyl rushes to her usual spot on teh front bench, where she can nudge open the curtains during the service to better see the men praying.
