Abandoned Route 66

Off to your right, you will see an area that takes you back through a section of the original Route 66 pre-1940. This section was abandoned when realignment occurred, which is now the section that takes you through Hooker's Cut. This area is only accessible by foot traffic. Veterans Bridge

Crossing the Gasconade River, the longest river in Missouri. This bridge was built in 2001.

Portuguese Point

This beautiful scenic overlook features striking rainbows and eagles The story behind the name came from an Indian who owned the land in the 1800s. In those days he didn't want people to know his heritage, so he told them he was of Portugese descent.

Frisco Railroad Overpass

Dixon was founded in 1869, The surveyor, Milton Santee, suggested the name of the town, as his hometown was Dixon, Illinios. Dixon Missouri serviced engines and also provided the location for railroad crews to change until 1883.

Dixon City Murals

The Mural painted by the Dixon Art Club was completed in May 2014. The City has since added several murals throughout the downtown area. Visit our online mural tour for more information!Local photographer Thomas Johnson later won 3rd prize in the VisitMo "Picture MO" Hometown Art contest.

Dixon Depot

The railroad depot at Dixon, Missouri, used by the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway Company. About 1872, the railway company located the division end here. This added a round-house for four engines and made it a residence for four crews; this number was increased during about three years, until there were located four freight and two or three passenger crews. For the following two years or thereabouts, the division was located at St. James, but was brought back about 1878, and remained until 1884, the time of its removal to Newburg.

Community of Hancock Missouri

Hancock was established in 1869 and was first named Iron Summit. The name was changed to Hancock after a Frisco official when the railroad acquired it in 1877.

Kentucky House

Built-in the 1930s this unique corner building is an interesting piece of architecture on the main street of town.

Frisco Depot Museum

The South Pacific Railway built the original depot in 1869. It was later in 1889 due to tremendous growth. This depot did more passenger and freight business than all the other towns in the county. The depot was located further south on Hwy 17. The city moved it to this current location and opened the depot as a museum which is open every 3rd Saturday April through October, or by appointment and during special events. Frisco Caboose

Located in Frisco Park, across the street from City Hall. Also home to the Veterans Memorial.

Schlict Springs Access

Schlicht Springs was a popular resort in the early 1900s visited by tourists from Saint Louis. Missouri Conservation later opened a public access to the river naming it after the nearby resort.Hwy 133 was built during 1932-1933.

Swedeborg, Missouri

The village of Swedeborg was named in 1883 by Swedish immigrants that bought the land from the railroad company. Frisco built the depot in 1881. Swedeborg was a fuel stop for locomotives and was known prior to 1883 as "Woodend", for the piles of cordwood locals stacked along the railroad right-of-way. Over the years the town had at least two major fires and was hit by two tornados, 1927 and 1937.

Entering Richland, Missouri

Richland, named after G. W. Rich, a director of the railroad. If you would turn down Hwy 7 North to Rochester Road you would discover the former Gascozark Resort which operated as Caveman BBQ and The Cave Restaurant and Resort from 1990-2015. The property is currently private property.

Shady Dell Park

Beautiful park system offering events year-round, walking trail, pulling and demolition derby track. Drive up to the top of the hill to see the Caboose.

First United Methodist Church

This church organized in 1870 in the Frisco Depot. Later a wooden building was constructed in 1878 on this site. In 1925 the current brick structure, you see, was built and is currently used as commercial business space. It is now home to Sanctuary Coffee & Quilts.

Bicentennial Mural

This mural was painted in 1976 by the Richland Art Guild, celebrating Fred Manes (center foreground), who was the village blacksmith for over 75 years.

Richland Depot - Original Location

Richland also had two depot. One from 1869 and another built in the 1950s. The most exported item in the 50s? Goldfish, from Ozark Fisheries located just north of the city of Richland on Hwy 7.

Gasconade River

The Gasconade River is the longest river completely within the boundary of Missouri. It has been called one of the world's crookedest rivers. It begins on the western side of Pulaski County near Hazelgreen and flows northward and eastward towards Dixon.It is considered a good float stream because there's typically not a heavy congestion of boats. It is common to go for many miles without seeing another boat.There are caves and an abundance of wildlife along the river and is considered a popular place by anglers for its largemouth and smallmouth bass.
