Tour Overview

37 Tribal Colleges and Universities across the U.S.
There are 37 Tribal Colleges and Universities, also known as 'TCUs,' across the United States. Since Dine College was first established on the Navajo Nation reservation in 1969, the movement for Native students to gain accredited educational experiences designed specifically for tribal populations has continued to gain traction. Today, there are 37 Tribal Colleges and Universities spread across 13 states.
The purpose of this Guide to Tribal Colleges and Universities is to trace the history of the TCU movement and to provide contemporary insights into each unique institution. The Guide will serve as a educational tool for Native students interested in pursuing higher education at a TCU, as well as a resource for Native families, tribal communities, and educators. The Guide will be of similar interest to historians of Native education history.
