Sassafras Mountain
Head to Sassafras Mountain, South Carolina’s highest peak.The views don’t get much better than this. Sassafras Mountain is the state’s highest peak at approximately 3,556 feet tall, and it’s a perfect place to soak in the alluring artistry of nature’s color palette. The mountain opened a new viewing platform in April 2019, which gives 360-degree views of the neighboring mountains in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia. Put it on your leaf-peeping list! Take a drive down Scenic Highway 11.Scenic Highway 11, formally known as the Cherokee Foothills National Scenic Byway, is a beautiful drive filled with mountain and lake views that will take your breath away. This country road is one that visitors flock to for the perfect backdrop to a fall getaway. While on Highway 11, stop by Sisters Restaurant in Salem for some delicious food, and say hello to our friends at Jocassee Valley Brewing Company. Treat yourself to an ice-cold craft beer while you’re there!
