The Abbey Loop branches off from the main Koala Trail at the junction of 3rd Parade and 10th Avenue once you have passed through the main koala area.Follow the Abbey Loop sign for about 200 metres till you see the trail sign at the corner of 10th Avenue and 1st Parade.
Down 1st Parade
Head west down 1st Parade for 400 metres and you will arrive at the Raymond Island Abbey on the corner of 1st Parade and 4th Avenue.
Turn Left for the Abbey
Turn left here and walk down the path heading south toward the lake for about 200 metres and turn right into the Abbey grounds.Keep looking up for koalas in the Abbey grounds as this is prime koala habitat. This is also a popular grazing area for kangaroos.Follow the trail signs through the grounds and you will come across the beautifully restored Raymond Island chapel.Just the other side of the chapel is a good seating area from which to stop and take in the tranquillity of the Abbey grounds.
To the Lake and Boardwalk
Keep following the trail signs west, cross over the small road and you will come to the stretch of water known as the McMillan strait Turn right and follow the narrow path along the lakeside from where you can see Paynesville across the water.After about 150 metres you will come across the wooden boardwalk that takes you back across the environmentally important Saltmarsh area and back to the ferry terminal.
