Tour Overview
Ipswich has a rich history. The traditional owners are the Clans that identify as being part of the Yagara/Yugara Language Group (the Jagera, Yuggera and Ugarapul Peoples) who have been on country since before European settlement. From 1827-1839 Ipswich became part of the Moreton Bay penal settlement and convicts were dispatched to quarry limestone. From 1839 onwards there was a period of free settlement and today Ipswich is one of the fastest growing cities in Queensland.
Ipswich Central has a high concentration of historic buildings and is a great place to get an overview of Ipswich's early colonial years.
