BAPTISMAL FONT

The baptismal font of Purbeck stone dates from around 1450 A.D. and is believed to have been brought to Bermuda from England by the early settlers.

STONE STATUE

Stone statues from the House of Parliament, brought to Bermuda to London after the second world War.

PULPIT

Pulpit made of Bermuda cedar in 1660, with the two lower desks believed to have been added in 1815.

THE SERVANTS

The "servants" gallery added by the Rector in 1721 so that black persons could attend services in the church.

CHURCH SILVER

In the back room behind the pulpit with historical displays including the Church silver dating back to 1625.

MEMORIAL WALL

The first of the many memorials placed on the walls of the church over the centuries, this to Governor Alured Popple who died in office in 1744 aged 46.

18th CENTURY   BOX

The 18th century Box reserved for the Governor or the Sovereign when attending services. Across from it is the Admiral's box, probably of a slightly later date.

OLDEST FURNITURE

The oldest piece of Bermuda furniture, St Peter's Communion Table, was made in 1612. Also the altar rail which originally was on three sides of the table ia now placed under the Triptych with then ten commandments.

TEN COMMANDS

The Triptych with the Ten Commandments, the Lord's Prayer and the Apostles' Creed, brought from England in 1815. The woodwork was replaced in 1988 with Bermuda cedar.

CEDAR CUPBOARD

The Bermuda cedar dole cupboard made in 1640 for distributing food to the needy and thought to be one of very few surviving anywhere.

GOVERNOR SHARPLES

Sir Richard Christopher Sharples, KCMG, OBE, MC March 10th 1973 was the Governor of Bermuda who was shot dead by assassins linked to a small militant Bermudian Black Power group and Governor of Bermuda in 1972. His murder resulted in the last executions conducted under British rule, in 1977.Sharples was killed outside Bermuda's Government House on 10 March 1973. An informal dinner party for a small group of guests had just concluded, when he decided to go for a walk with his Great Dane, Horsa, and his aide-de-camp, Captain Hugh Sayers of the Welsh Guards. The two men and dog were ambushed and gunned down outside the Governor's residence.

JAMES J DARRELL

James (Jemmy) Darrell the first free black enslaved man was buried in the western graveyard for free blacks and enslaved persons in St. Peter's Church. The inscription on his headstone, which ascribes to him such qualities as “usefulness” and “integrity”, indicates he was held in high esteem.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site St.Peter's Church , ' Their Majesties Chappell ' Church established by the Virginia Company in 1612 HM Queen Elizabeth 11 and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh visited in 1953 In the early 1800's and following Emancipation in 1823 1620 The first General Assembly met in this church 2000 The Town of ST GEORGE’S and related fortification was designated by UNESCO as a world heritage site
