HAMILTON FERRY TERMINAL

Hamilton Ferry TerminalBermuda's ferry system offers an easy, scenic and fun way to get around the island. On the western end of Front Street in the City of Hamilton, the Hamilton Ferry Terminal is the main hub of the ferry system, with three routes starting and ending at this location. The Blue Route offers a direct, 20-minute ride to the Royal Naval Dockyard. The Green Route connects the City of Hamilton to other parts of the West End at Watford Bridge, Cavello Bay and Rockaway. The Pink Route is primarily a commuter ferry, offering quick service to five stops across the harbor in Paget. A fourth itinerary, the Orange Route, runs exclusively from the Dockyard to the Town of St. George. Riders can buy tokens, pay cash at the ferry or get a transport pass that allows unlimited rides on all ferries and buses.

POINT PLEASANT

Located behind the Hamilton’s ferry terminal, Point Pleasant Park has always been a popular place among locals and tourists who wish to eat their lunch by the picturesque Hamilton Harbour and marine boating public. Point Pleasant Park is home to the Jervis Bay Memorial which honours the memory of the men of H.M.S. Jervis Bay ship who gave their lives in action against a German raider in the North Atlantic on November 5th, 1940. It is also home to the Bill Ming sculpture named (Against da Tide),

BARR'S BAY PARK

A DIASPORA TRAILThe arrival of a United States merchant vessel with 78 enslaved people on the slave ship Enterprise due to the Atlantic Coast bad weather, in 1835. Men, women and children who had been enslaved and were given their freedom and allowed to remain in Bermuda. A statue was unveiled in February 2010 on the 175th anniversary of the ship’s arrival in Bermuda’s waters. In attendance at the unveiling were local descendants of the people who were freed.

Birdcage

The Birdcage was created in 1962 by Bermuda's first city engineer, Geoffrey 'Dickie' Bird, who constructed “the cage” to protect policemen who were directing traffic.

QUEEN ELIZABETH PAR-LA-VILLE SCULPTURE PARK

Step into this oasis at the center of Hamilton, the perfect place for a stroll or respite during a busy day of sightseeing. Enter from Queen Street and pass through Bermuda’s oldest limestone moon gate, then follow mosaic footpaths to find lush gardens, sculptures, a koi pond and grab a good book from the Bermuda Library Museum next door and relax or pack a picnic lunch and find a spot on one of the park’s many wooden benches, or beneath the towering royal poinciana tree at the park’s center.

PEROT POST OFFICE

Bermuda's first stamp was printed in this landmark building. Beloved by collectors from all over the world, the stamps -- signed by William Bennett Perot, Bermuda's first postmaster -- are priceless. It's said that Perot and his friend, who ran an apothecary, conceived the first postage stamp to protect the post office from cheaters. People used to stop off at the post office and leave letters, but not enough pennies to send them. The postage stamps were printed in black or carmine.Philatelists can purchase contemporary Bermuda stamps here for its anniversaries, Bermuda issued a series of stamps honoring its discovery in 1609. One stamp portrays the admiral of the fleet, Sir George Somers, along with Sir Thomas Gates, the captain of the Sea Venture. Another depicts the settlement of Jamestown, Virginia, which was on the verge of extinction when Sir George and the survivors of the Bermuda shipwreck finally arrived with supplies late in 1610. A third shows the Sea Venture stranded on the coral reefs of Bermuda. Yet another shows the entire fleet, originally bound for Jamestown, leaving Plymouth, England, and Bermuda as it progressed.

BERMUDA NATIONAL LIBRARY

The Bermuda National Library - Digital Collection includes issues of The Royal Gazette through the various owners and mastheads from 1784 to December 1964. These issues, plus January 1965 to June 2021, are available on microfilm at the Bermuda National Library with free WI-FI.

KFC Bermuda opened in 1975, KFC remained for over 47 years, this is the only local U.S. food franchise which was moved and has remained since leaving the U.S Air Force Base Southside Bermuda.

CITY HALL - BERMUDA’S NATIONAL ART GALLERY

Located in central Hamilton on Church Street, Bermuda’s City Hall is a prominent white building. As you go up the stairs, you will find the Bermuda National Gallery on the first landing to your right. This is where Bermuda’s national collections of art are displayed, and the permanent exhibits include paintings, sculptures, masks, photographs etc. Further up on your left is the Bermuda Society of Arts. It displays and sells creative artwork like paintings, sculptures and photographs of local artists.There is an exquisite grand room here with sofas, tables and chairs where the members of the Royal family and other dignitaries have occasional meetings. When not in use, you can enter the room take a look around and feel the royal ambiance. The City Hall Theatre has been renamed The Earl Cameron Theater in honor of the 95-year-old famous Bermudian actor Mr. Earl Cameron. Bermuda Society of Arts exhibition hours change regularly; Monday to Friday 10am - 4pm, Saturday 10am - 2pm. Bermuda National Gallery hours: Monday to Friday, 10am – 4pm, Saturday 10am – 12pm. Both closed Public Holidays.

HAMILTON BUS TERMINAL

The central bus terminal (where all public bus routes begin/end) is located next to Hamilton City Hall, on Washington Street. You can purchase individual bus tokens, booklets of fifteen bus tickets, public transportation passes and ticket apps. While your waiting stop by Victoria Park for some quiet time.

THE CATHEDRAL OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY CHURCH

The Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity Church (often referred to as the Bermuda Cathedral) is an Anglican Church, the Church of England which in Bermuda was renamed the Anglican Church of Bermuda in 1978, and extra-provincial diocese under the Archbishop of Canterbury located on Church Street in the City of Hamilton in Pembroke parish.The original Trinity Church was designed in the Early English style by James Cranston of Oxford in 1844 and was completed in 1869. Named Trinity Church, it was designated a chapel of the island for the then - Bishop of Newfoundland and Bermuda. St. John's Church was already the parish church for Pembroke Parish and remained so after Trinity Church was constructed. Trinity Church was destroyed by arson in 1884. Scottish architects who had been consulted on the construction of the first building in 1848–1849 and again in 1862, designed the current structure in 1885 in the Gothic Revival style. HOUSE OF PARLIAMENT AND GENERAL POST OFFICE

Bermuda is the oldest self-governing overseas territory in the British Commonwealth. It's 1968 constitution provides the island with formal responsibility for internal self-government, while the British Government retains responsibility for external affairs, defense, and security. The Sessions House, also known as the House of Assembly, is the official place where the parliamentary sessions of Bermuda are being held. DAME LOIS BROWNE-EVANS BUILDING

Dame Lois Browne-Evans is a legendary figure in Bermuda’s history. She broke many barriers in Bermuda becoming the first black female lawyer 1953. This building that bears Dame Lois Browne-Evans name and this statue of her likeness, will forever be a reminder that while justice may be blind to race, social standing, political beliefs and all those other things that get in the way of our accepting one another outside these doors, inside these doors a watchful pair of eyes stands as safeguard for the ideals on which the very system she loved was built.A trailblazer in every sense, she was the island’s first female lawyer, first female Attorney General and first woman to serve as Opposition Leader in the British Commonwealth.

Follow Court Street and cross over Victoria St and take the next left onto Dundonald Street, Gosling's is opposite the BIU Gas Station.Over the years Black Seal Rum has become synonymous with Bermuda. It is an essential ingredient in Bermuda fish chowder, adds the island flavor to the Bermuda Rum Swizzle, and is the tempest of Bermuda’s favorite cocktail the Dark ‘n Stormy.

PLP HEADQUARTERS

The Bermuda Progressive Labour Party (PLP) is Bermuda’s oldest political party founded in February 1963. After being Her Majesty’s Opposition from 1968 for 30 years, the Party held power from 1998 to 2012. The Party once again sat in Opposition from December 2012 for four and a half years but was returned to government in a historic election on July 18, 2017 and continues to remain in power.

BERMUDA INDUSTRIAL UNION HEADQUARTERS

The Bermuda Industrial Union (BIU) is a general trade union in Bermuda and has a membership of 4200. It was founded in 1946 taking over from the Bermuda Workers' Association which continued as the BIU political arm.BIU became the largest and most influential trade union in the country, by centralizing its organization and branching to address the needs of various industry segments, like electricians, hospital staff, hotel workers, and street maintenance personnel.In its early days, between 1946 and 1960, multiple strike actions resulted in some gains for workers, but after 1960, when OOTTIWELL. SIMMONS, a trained union organizer became president, BIU became a professional organization focusing on training organizers and functionaries. Until the 1981 general strike the labor negotiations of the BIU were able to maintain a calm during collective bargaining processes.[

FORT HAMILTON

Walk down Church Street take a left onto King Street and up the hill to Happy Valley.Fort Hamilton, built by the British in the 1870s, was purchased by the City in 1926. Over the years, it has served various roles—from a military installation to the headquarters of the Bermuda Volunteer Rifle Corps (BVRC) and even temporary housing for Portuguese workers in the 1930s.Arrival of the First Portuguese Immigrants in BermudaThe first Portuguese settlers to arrive in Bermuda did so on November 6, 1849 arrived aboard Captain Benjamin Watlington’s ship Golden Rule with the hope of obtaining a better life for themselves.

The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service protects lives and property in case of fire. They also provide emergency medical services and respond to road traffic accidents.

Follow King Street towards Reid Street, turn left down Spurling Hill by stop light east 10 minute walk.Museum science center with kid-friendly exhibits on marine life, history of the Bermuda Triangle and shipwrecks around Bermuda.You’ll find coral-encrusted coins and other treasures pulled from shipwrecks, a simulated dive and shark cage, an astounding seashell collection and exhibits revealing the mysterious marine life of the sea-bottom. After you’ve worked up an appetite, head to the onsite Harbourfront Restaurant for lunch or dinner situated right on the Hamilton Harbour.

CABINET BUILDING

The location of the old national library back in the day. Hidden behind the gates that surround the grounds of Bermuda’s Cabinet Building you will find the Spirit of Freedom, made of bronze with bound hands and feet and head raised defiantly towards the sky. Her name was Sarah (Sally) Bassett and she was a strong woman. In 1730, she was burned alive at the stake by the government of Bermuda for allegedly attempting to poison her granddaughter’s enslavers.The Cabinet Office houses the Office of the Premier of Bermuda, who is appointed by the Governor and is an elected Member of the House of Assembly who is the leader of Bermuda’s elected Government. He chairs the Cabinet who execute on the Government’s mandate. There are currently eleven Ministries.
