Intro

First a warm welcome to our Glasgow City Music Tour. We will be walking a roughly circular route round the musical landmarks of our city. Let's kick things off with a bit of history.

Banks of the River Clyde

Our journey today begins on the banks of the River Clyde. Hear how this river influenced the growth of the city and helped develop our music scene.

The Clutha and The Scotia Bar

Both The Clutha and The Scotia have been much loved music pubs for decades. And both have histories full of highs and lows.

Britannia Panopticon Music Hall

This is the worlds oldest working music hall and the hall that launched the career of Stan Laurel, of Laurel and Hardy, to fame. To learn more about the Panopticon, play Track 5. Alternatively, if you are ready to move on, play Track 6 as we walk to our next location.

Candleriggs (Play while walking)

You are now walking along one of the oldest streets in Glasgow. Formerly home to several markets, Candleriggs was one of the city's original thirteen streets.

City Halls and Old Fruit Market

In front of you is the oldest, purpose-built performance space in Glasgow. It has hosted everyone from David Livingston to AC/DC although David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust gig failed to achieve lift off. Play Track 8 as we walk to out next location.

Towards Trongate (Play while walking)

Along Trongate

The building across road is now the Tron Theatre but once it had a heated night with a devilish gang called the Hellfire Club. Head along the Trongate to Glasgow Cross and the Tolbooth Steeple with its distinctive clock face.

Along Gallowgate (Play while walking)

As we head towards Barrowland Ballroom, we'll point out a couple of colourful locations including a Billy Connolly mural.

Barrowland

Arguably Glasgow's best loved venue, Barrowland is famous for hosting gigs by bands such as Oasis, Metallica, and Simple Minds. But its history stretches back much further.Opposite you on your right you should see the Van Winkle BBQ pit. Towards Barrowland Park (Play while walking)

St Andrews in the Square

Learn about this location and its link to our poet Robert Burns.

Parnie Street and King Street

With its quirky shops, Parnie Street is one of the most characterful in the Merchant Cit. Keep going to the corner with King Street.

The 13th Note and Mono
