La Valle Landing

To go to that landing from the north with your vehicle, you turn left immediately after crossing the Highway 58 bridge and then left again at the first dirt road. If you are traveling south to north on 58, turn right immediately before the bridge and then turn left on the dirt entry road. That leads to an open grassy area where you can park. At the northeast end of the grassy area is mowed path to the river. There is about a two foot dirt bank there which can be muddy at times. This is a spot where you can take out or put in your boat. This stretch of river has a couple areas of sandstone bluffs but mostly has floodplain forest on its banks. And those bluffs are not as spectacular at the ones between Union Center and LaValle. You will see at most three houses on the way to Reedsburg. During the first couple miles you may soon see some debris still remaining from major floods in 2008 and 2018, including a full size metal dumpsters mostly submerged in the river. The river can be shallow in spots here. The Little Baraboo River enters the Baraboo on the right bank a mile or two downstream. This stretch of river is kept pretty clear due to the Lazy Beaver Race held each summer with narrow openings cut through log jams.
