Garrett County Visitor Center

Swallow Falls State Park

Follow the signs to Swallow Falls. The address for Swallow Falls is the same as Herrington Manor State Park.From the Visitor Center turn left on Visitor Center Dr. take the next right onto Vacation Way at the intersection take a left.On Sang Run Rd take the second left onto Marsh Hill Rd. travel apprx. 2.51 miles.Turn right onto Shingle Camp Rd. travel apprx. 2.23 miles. to Oakland Sang Run Rd. Oakland Sang Run Rd. will take you to Swallow Falls Rd (will be on your right) this will take you into Swallow Falls State Park(Follow the signs)Swallow Falls State Park is a public recreation area located on the west bank of the Youghiogheny River 9 miles north of Oakland in Garrett County, Maryland, in the United States. The state park features Maryland's highest free-falling waterfall, the 53-foot Muddy Creek Falls, as well as smaller waterfalls on the Youghiogheny River and Tolivar Creek. The park is notable for its stand of old hemlock trees, some more than 300 years old, "the last stand of its kind in Maryland."

Herrington Manor State Park

222 Herrington Manor LnTake Swallow Falls Rd apprx. 1.32 miles to Herrington Manor Rd. Follow the signs for Herrington Manor State Park.Herrington Manor State Park is a public recreation area on 365 acres in Garrett County, Maryland. The focal point of the state park is 53-acre Herrington Lake. The park lies adjacent to Swallow Falls State Park, approximately 4 miles north of Oakland. Both parks are managed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

B&O Train Station

117 E Liberty St. Oakland, MD.The Railroad Station has undergone a complete, historically-accurate restoration.The exterior renovations included the repair of historic windows, roof shingles, gutters and general painting. Interior renovations included the addition of a central air system, humidity controls, ultraviolet light filters,, and refinished floors. This architectural beauty is one of the gems of Oakland. Take your time and tour the station. Enjoy the heritage and history of the station before you set out on your driving tour.

Transportation Museum

107 S Second St Oakland, MD When leaving The Deer Park Inn. continue on Hotel Rd to Hotel Dr. (will be on the right) Circle back to hotel Rd and out to MD Hwy intersection. Go straight onto Broadford Rd. follow until you come to Memorial Dr. on the right. Take Memorial Dr. To N 3rd St. take a left. Take a right onto E Green Street which will turn into E Liberty. Transportation Museum will be across from the Train station where you began the tour.Return to the past as you visit two floors of exhibits in the new Garrett County Transportation Museum. The first floor features carriages, sleighs, buggies, fire department artifacts and automobiles, along with a representation of A.D. Naylor’s Blacksmith Shop, one of the earliest and most prominent businesses in Oakland. The second floor called the Deep Creek Gallery, hosts a variety of exhibits documenting the history of Deep Creek Lake and nearby Maryland State Parks of Herrington Manor, Swallow Falls, New Germany and Deep Creek.

Deer Park Inn

65 Hotel Rd.When leaving B&O Train Station you will take a right onto E Liberty St. East Liberty St Will turn into E Green St. Follow E Green to 33rd Street Turn right.in aprx. 674 ft. you will take a left on E Oak St. E Oak will turn into MD Hwy 135 stay on this Rd. for aprx. 4.35 miles.Turn right onto Deer Park Hotel Rd. follow signs to the Deer Park Inn.National Register of Historic Places. Nestled comfortably in the picturesque Allegheny Mountains of western Maryland, The Deer Park Inn creates a perfect setting for a memorable dining experience. Unique overnight accommodations are also available in the restored Victorian mansion.

Scenic Routes

Leaving Deer Park you will follow Deer Park Rd Hotel back to MD Hwy Go straight through the intersection and travel onto Broadford Rd. apprx. 1.23 miles Take a right onto Kings Run Rd. follow to the end. Take a right onto Garrett Hwy. apprx. 10 miles.Garrett Hwy will take you back to the Visitor Center, where your tour began.Enjoy a scenic journey through Garrett County. These roads will provide you with some gorgeous views of our fall foliage. Roll down the windows and turn up the radio this is a road trip worth the drive.
