Kitzmiller Company Store (home of the Coal Bucket Cafe)

Travel to 238 W Main St, Kitzmiller, MD 21538Your visit to the town of Kitzmiller will give you a look back in time when the area was known as a booming timbering and coal mining town. The Coal Bucket Cafe serves as a good starting point as you can grab a bite to eat and see some coal mining memorabilia.

Kitzmiller River Walk

39°23'14.29"N, 79°10'53.54"WFrom the Coal Bucket Restaurant, walk one block from W. Main Street to State Street (Rt. 38) and then just before the bridge, you will see a trail on your right.The river trail has lovely views and extends approximately 0.6 mile to the Kitzmiller Elementary School Building.

Melvin Brown Arboretum & Botanical Gardens

The Kitzmiller botanical garden is located across from the elementary school and is perfect place to explore after your walk along the river.

Former Shallmar Company Store

(Privately Owned) - 39.378776, -79.203298Travel (drive) from Kitzmiller on W. Main Street that will turn into Shallmar Road. Travel approximately 1.3 miles from the Kitzmiller School to the former Shallmar Company Store.The sole commercial building in Shallmar is the former company store, now privately owned, It is a one-and-one-half story building constructed of local cut stone. Two entrances are provided on the front, one to the store proper, the other to the former pay office. The store entrance is framed by simple iron columns and all of the windows have iron bars. Only a few letters of the words "Shallmar Supply Company," are still visible.
