Tour Overview
This tour focuses on the the historic network of trails, roads, bridges, and waterways that helped make this area a primary route for the United States' westward expansion during the 18th and 19th centuries. The tour begins in eastern Garrett County on Alternate Route 40, the National Road. From Interstate 68, take EXIT 29 toward Alternate Route 40 West.The first National Road marker in the county (The Long Stretch) will be on the left beside the Hen House Restaurant. From here, the tour continues west on the National Road toward Grantsville, and on to Keyser's Ridge and the State Line. Look for National Road interpretive markers along the way.
