How your tour works

Let's make sure we're in the same place.

Click the link. It will take you to a map which can give you turn by turn directions.

Let’s get comfortable with the app. Thanks to GPS, the app always knows where you are. That's how it matches my talking points to what you see around you. You can follow your progress by clicking on the map icon that looks like a folded piece of paper at the bottom of this screen. See the little blue dot? That's you! The points around it are stops along our tour. As you get close to a point, I should start talking. The numbers on each point correspond to the numbers on the title of each page.

By the way you don’t have to take the walk to enjoy the tour. It works from anywhere, online or off, and you don’t need to complete it in one session. It’s yours to keep.

On the top of the map you’ll see four icons in three groups. On the left, the icon that looks like a square gives you the default view of the tour; the next-left icon, with an arrow, gives you directions to the which ever point on the map you’re interested in. The gear wheel icon gives you access to OpenStreetMap and the X icon closes the map.

Sometimes you’ll reach a new talking point before I’m finished talking about the old one. You can easily go back by clicking on the Previous arrow at the bottom right of your screen, then clicking the icon with an earphone just below the main picture.

You’ll probably find the best walking pace is sauntering-- take your time and walk like you’re window shopping.

If the GPS doesn't seem to trigger my talking points, you can either nudge it along

• By clicking the Next-Previous buttons at the bottom of your screen;

• Clicking on the hamburger icon (three horizontal lines) at the top right of your screen to bring up a clickable list of topics;

• Switching over to the map and clicking any of the numbered circles. The numbers on the map correspond to the numbers at the top of each topic page. Clicking a number brings up the title of the talk. Click the title to go there.

Wherever you are, the main picture at the top of each page should reflect what you're seeing. For example, the page about George's Island, is a picture of an island. Click the earphone icon just below the main picture and I'll tell you all about the island.

If things go really bad click the Exit Tour button on the top left of your screen. That should take you back to the start screen where you can start over. The map should detect your location so you can pick up where you left off.

Now click the button at the bottom of your screen to start the tour. Let's cross the street to the Immigration Museum.
