Manohar Devadoss

Know more about the artist

Born in 1936, Manohar Devadoss began drawing pictures very early in life. Early sketches drawn across school notebooks during class hours were followed by those of women in sarees and swimsuits during his teenage years. Drawings of steam engines and electric trains further taught him the concept of perspectives.

A detailed ink-drawing of the college chapel during his years in college beckoned the start of a new refined phase of his art style. A large number of intricate ink drawings of heritage buildings were made later on as he battled with declining eyesight. By 1976 a vision confined only to his left eye urged him to draw at a much faster pace.

His illustrated, autobiographical novel - “Green Well Years” received rave reviews and is now in its 4th reprint, sponsored by 'Jayaraj Chelladurai Trust'. Since then he has published seven books, six of which are illustrated. He is currently working on two books.

He had lost his eyesight completely by 2018.

At 82, although he lives all alone, he continues to lead an extraordinarily happy life inspired by his creative side and the loving support from dear ones.
