Barry Ross Smith
Barry Ross Smith is an oil painter creating surreal imagery of islands dotted with colonial villas and oversized birds. His works obliquely draw concern for our environment and the after effects of colonialism upon our native species. They feature in public, private and corporate collections across New Zealand, Australia, Europe, North America and Asia.New work usually begins with a few sessions in the studio surrounded by books, an iPad and a stick of charcoal, pencil or brush in hand. Often days go by sketching, researching concepts, procrastinating, daydreaming and drinking black coffee. The ideas come from connecting different images from my lived experience, the stream of consciousness and recent musings - much as in a dream, these disparate ideas form a new concept"Creating new ideas is intuitive, it means not knowing what you're looking for - but knowing when you see it"AddressGreenhithe Old School Building15A Collins ParkGreenhithe RoadGreenhitheAuckland 0632

Meet the artist behind the work and discover ceramics that go beyond functionality, celebrating uniqueness and the beauty of artistic expression. JoannaAlina CeramicsI make pottery as therapy. With each family of work, I'm exploring a process of making: be it textures, shapes and raw materials. Focusing on the "how" not so much the "what". The works I complete are a tremendous effort of energy and focus. Sometimes unpredictable, often times overlooked. I love everything about ceramics, from the labour to the creativity, an ongoing exploration into a state of mind.

The Freemanz Studio
An invitation to meet Julie and Michael Freeman (Internationally recognised Pastel Artists) in their studio environment while they are working on their hyper realistic pastel paintings. They will be more than happy to answer any questions that you might have related to their artwork, art journey, and their processes, materials and techniques. They will have original artwork for sale, plus you can order Limited Edition Prints.Julie FreemanJulie a self-taught hyperrealist artist has refined her skills over the years, specializing in pastels. Her dedication to realism is evident in her work, which has earned her significant recognition. She holds many prestigious titles including Master Status with the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS), Master Pastelist with the Pastel Artists of New Zealand (MPANZ) and Australia (MPSA) and she is a Signature member of the Pastel Society of America (PSA). Her fascination with realism began in childhood, where she found joy and a sense of accomplishment in sketching and painting realistic images. After working with coloured pencils and white charcoal for several years, Julie discovered pastels in 2009. Utilizing pastel pencils and soft pastel sticks, she expanded her subject matter and gained wider recognition for her work. Julie aims to create works that achieve realism beyond the photograph and when not in her studio, she seeks inspiration from the environment using her own reference images. Her diverse subject matter includes animal and wildlife portraits, coastal and nautical scenes, and native flora and fauna. More recently, she has been exploring still life compositions. Julie's artwork has received numerous national and international awards, and her pieces are in private collections in the UK, USA, and New Zealand. In addition to creating her own art, Julie loves sharing her knowledge and skills with others. With her husband Michael she offers workshops upon request and provides private tuition from her studio in Auckland, helping aspiring artists to develop their own talents in the medium of pastels.Michael FreemanMichael is an international award winning pastel artist from New Zealand. He has had a fascination with realism since childhood and in his paintings he is always striving to create images that have greater depth and feeling than can be achieved with a photograph. Michael is in an Eminent Pastelist of IAPS (IAPS-EP), is a Master Pastelist of the Pastel Artists of New Zealand (MPANZ), is a Master Pastelist of the Pastel Society of Australia (MPSA), a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America (PSA), and has a Master of Fine Arts degree (University of Illinois, USA). Michael went to Elam School of Fine Arts (University of Auckland) to be a painter and left a product designer. However after a successful design career in 2010 he decided to return to his passion for painting. Starting initially with acrylics, before discovering the wonderful medium of pastel – which suits his hyper realistic style and love of detail. Michael’s subjects range from his current series of still life paintings featuring iconic New Zealand toys and objects, through - landscapes featuring old weathered sheds, barns, railway carriages, windows and doors, old locks, and farm animals (mainly cows) – all inspired from photographic trips along New Zealand's roads. Michael has won many awards internationally and in New Zealand, and has been exhibiting his work regularly since 2015.Address318b Upper Harbour DrGreenhithe
