Tour Overview
This walking tour the trade history of Middelburg. The Netherlands has had an important role in the so-called triangle trade system and Middelburg was often the starting point for these voyages. Almost half of the slaves that the Dutch traded, have been traded by the Zeelanders (Zeeuwen). Visit the locations in the historical city center of Middelburg that remind us of this history of trading, and see for yourself how well the city keeps its own history.
You can choose the way to walk yourself. Do you want to make sure to walk past everything? Our advice is to start at the Zeeuws Archives at Hofplein 16 and continue walking anticlockwise.
